Vision Therapy in Thornhill
Fellowship-trained optometrist helping children and adults see better, learn easier, and recover faster
Vision therapy is more than eye exercises—it's a personalized program that retrains the connection between your eyes and brain. Led by Dr. Melissa Yeung, one of few FOVDR-certified optometrists in Ontario, our clinic helps patients overcome learning difficulties, recover from concussions, and achieve their visual potential.
What is Vision Therapy?
Vision therapy is a doctor-supervised program that improves how your eyes and brain work together. While glasses correct what you see, vision therapy trains how you see—improving eye coordination, focusing, tracking, and visual processing.
Using therapeutic lenses, prisms, filters, and guided activities, we strengthen neural pathways to make vision more comfortable, efficient, and automatic. Most programs involve weekly in-office sessions plus home exercises over 12-24 weeks.

Vision Therapy FAQs
Is there a vision therapy clinic near Thornhill?
Yes. Elevate Vision Care is located at 7357 Woodbine Ave in Markham, just 12 minutes from Thornhill. Dr. Melissa Yeung holds a FOVDR fellowship in vision therapy—a rare credential indicating advanced training in vision development and neuro-optometric rehabilitation.
How much does vision therapy cost for Thornhill families?
Vision therapy program costs depend on the condition being treated and program duration (typically 12-24 weeks). We direct bill most extended health insurance plans, and many cover vision therapy. Book an assessment for a personalized treatment plan and quote.
Can vision therapy help Thornhill students struggling in school?
Yes. We see many Thornhill students whose academic struggles stem from undiagnosed vision problems—not learning disabilities. Issues like poor eye tracking, focusing difficulties, and convergence insufficiency respond well to vision therapy.
Do Thornhill pediatricians refer patients for vision therapy?
Yes. We receive referrals from Thornhill pediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and teachers. If your child has been evaluated for ADHD or learning disabilities, a vision therapy assessment can rule out visual causes.
What age can Thornhill children start vision therapy?
Children as young as 4-5 years old can begin vision therapy, though programs are tailored to each child's developmental level. Early intervention for conditions like lazy eye (amblyopia) often produces the best outcomes.
Is vision therapy effective for Thornhill adults?
Yes. Adults benefit from vision therapy for convergence insufficiency, post-concussion symptoms, computer eye strain, and double vision. While children often progress faster, adults achieve meaningful improvements with consistent effort.
What should I expect at a vision therapy session?
Each 30-45 minute session includes guided exercises using therapeutic lenses, prisms, and vision therapy equipment. Our vision therapist works one-on-one with patients to build visual skills progressively. Home exercises reinforce in-office progress.
What should Thornhill parents expect during a vision therapy assessment?
The assessment takes 60-90 minutes and evaluates eye teaming, tracking, focusing, and visual processing. Bring school reports, previous eye exam records, and a list of your child's symptoms. We will explain whether vision therapy is appropriate and outline a treatment plan.
