Vision Therapy in Markham
Fellowship-trained optometrist helping children and adults see better, learn easier, and recover faster
Vision therapy is more than eye exercises—it's a personalized program that retrains the connection between your eyes and brain. Led by Dr. Melissa Yeung, one of few FOVDR-certified optometrists in Ontario, our Markham clinic helps patients overcome learning difficulties, recover from concussions, and achieve their visual potential.
What is Vision Therapy?
Vision therapy is a doctor-supervised program that improves how your eyes and brain work together. While glasses correct what you see, vision therapy trains how you see—improving eye coordination, focusing, tracking, and visual processing.
Using therapeutic lenses, prisms, filters, and guided activities, we strengthen neural pathways to make vision more comfortable, efficient, and automatic. Most programs involve weekly in-office sessions plus home exercises over 12-24 weeks.

Vision Therapy FAQs
What is vision therapy?
Vision therapy is a personalized, doctor-directed program that strengthens the connection between your eyes and brain. Unlike glasses or contacts that compensate for vision problems, vision therapy retrains your visual system to work more efficiently through targeted exercises, therapeutic lenses, prisms, and guided activities.
How much does vision therapy cost in Markham?
Vision therapy costs vary based on the condition being treated and program length. Most programs run 12-24 weeks with weekly in-office sessions plus home exercises. We offer direct billing to most insurance providers, and many extended health plans cover vision therapy. Contact us for a personalized quote after your assessment.
Is vision therapy covered by OHIP?
Vision therapy itself is not covered by OHIP. However, the initial eye exam may be covered for eligible patients (children under 19, seniors 65+, or those with qualifying medical conditions). Many extended health insurance plans cover vision therapy—we direct bill most major providers.
What conditions does vision therapy treat?
Vision therapy treats eye coordination problems, convergence insufficiency, lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), learning-related vision problems, post-concussion visual syndrome, double vision, focusing difficulties, and visual processing delays.
How long does vision therapy take to work?
Most patients see improvement within 8-12 weeks, with full programs typically lasting 12-24 weeks. Progress depends on the condition, patient age, and consistency with home exercises. Children often respond quickly, while adults may need longer programs.
Can vision therapy help my child with reading difficulties?
Yes. Many reading difficulties stem from undiagnosed vision problems like eye tracking issues, focusing problems, or poor eye coordination. Vision therapy addresses these underlying visual skills, often leading to significant improvements in reading speed, comprehension, and comfort.
What is a neuro-optometric assessment?
A neuro-optometric assessment evaluates how your visual system functions after a concussion, stroke, or brain injury. It tests eye tracking, focusing ability, binocular vision, and visual processing—often revealing issues that standard eye exams miss.
What does FOVDR mean?
FOVDR stands for Fellow of the Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation. It is a prestigious credential indicating advanced fellowship training in vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. Dr. Melissa Yeung is one of few FOVDR-certified optometrists in Ontario.
