Ortho-K & Myopia Control in Thornhill
Clear daytime vision without glasses—and slow your child's myopia progression
Orthokeratology (ortho-k) uses custom-designed lenses worn overnight to reshape your cornea while you sleep. Wake up to clear vision without glasses or daytime contacts. For children, ortho-k is also one of the most effective treatments to slow nearsightedness progression.
What is Ortho-K?
Ortho-k (orthokeratology) is a non-surgical vision correction method using specially designed rigid gas-permeable contact lenses. You wear them while sleeping, and they gently reshape your cornea overnight. In the morning, you remove the lenses and enjoy clear vision throughout the day—no glasses or contacts needed.
Beyond vision correction, ortho-k is clinically proven to slow myopia progression in children. Studies including the LORIC trial and ROMIO study demonstrate significant efficacy. By starting early, you can reduce your child's risk of developing high myopia and associated eye health complications later in life.

Ortho-K FAQs
Is there an ortho-k provider near Thornhill?
Yes. Elevate Vision Care is located at 7357 Woodbine Ave in Markham, approximately 12 minutes from Thornhill. We have extensive experience fitting ortho-k for myopia control in children and glasses-free vision for adults.
How much does ortho-k cost for Thornhill families?
Ortho-k programs include custom fitting, lenses, and first-year follow-ups. Pricing depends on prescription complexity. Many Thornhill families use their extended health benefits for ortho-k—we direct bill most providers.
What age can Thornhill children start ortho-k?
Children as young as 6-8 years old can begin ortho-k, though we assess each child's maturity and ability to handle lenses. Early intervention is often most effective for slowing myopia progression.
Is ortho-k better than atropine drops for Thornhill children?
Both ortho-k and atropine drops effectively slow myopia progression. Ortho-k also provides glasses-free daytime vision. Some children use both together for maximum effect. We can discuss which approach suits your child.
Can Thornhill adults benefit from ortho-k?
Yes. Many Thornhill adults use ortho-k for glasses-free days—perfect for sports, swimming, or jobs where glasses are inconvenient. Adults with mild to moderate myopia and healthy corneas are typically good candidates.
What happens at an ortho-k consultation for Thornhill patients?
We measure your corneal topography, assess prescription suitability, discuss lifestyle needs, and explain the fitting process. If you proceed, we order custom lenses and schedule your fitting appointment.
How often do Thornhill patients need ortho-k check-ups?
Expect frequent visits in the first month as we fine-tune your lenses, then quarterly check-ups once stable. We also monitor your child's myopia progression with regular axial length measurements.
